John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced this week that New London resident Bashon Whitley, 27, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute heroin, cocaine and 28 grams or more of crack.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on March 3 last year, a court-authorized search of a New London apartment connected to Whitley and his uncle led to the seizure of approximately 14.5 grams of heroin, 27 grams of cocaine, 177 grams of crack cocaine, items used to process and package narcotics for street sale, a .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun, ammunition and $9,180 in cash.
Both Whitley and his uncle were taken into custody following the search and seizure. Whitley’s uncle has also been charged with federal narcotics trafficking and firearm possession offenses and is currently detained as he awaits trial.
Whitley has been detained since Jan. 24, when he was charged federally. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 27, when he will face a maximum term of up to 40 years in prison.
